Scandalous, the musical stars Two-time Tony Award® nominee Carolee Carmello as Aimee Semple McPherson, the trailblazing 1920’s media superstar whose passion for saving souls was matched by her passion for making headlines who as her popularity grows, enemies also grow leading to a dramatic fall from grace. Two-time Tony Award® winner George Hearn leads a remarkable cast of 20 in this new musical about one woman’s incredible rise to glory and spectacular end.
Carolee Carmello as Aimee Semple McPherson was amazing, her voice was a wonder and certainly hope there are more lead roles in her future. While I thought the production was engaging and funny, I thought it a tad too long in parts and could be trimmed by 15 minutes. The production is set in 1920’s Los Angeles and had a very art deco staging but seemed somewhat spare. All in all, I liked the production.
Scandalous fun fact – The book and lyrics are by Kathie Lee Gifford (yes, that Kathie Lee Gifford of the Today Show. )
