The late Niki de Saint Phalle colorful sculptures are on view this summer on Park Avenue running from 52nd to 60th Street. I came across Les Baigneurs (1983) on 58th Street. Talk about eye-catching bringing a dash of panache to Park Avenue.
There are nine sculptures in total that include Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis, both from Saint Phalle’s Black Heroes series, “Baseball Player homage to Tony Wynn. Hopefully, I will be in the area to take more photos of the rest of sculptures.
The nine sculptures are located on Park Avenue from 52nd to 60th Street and will be on view until November 15, 2012. The New York Parks Department coordinates outdoor exhibits that are located throughout the city. I truly appreciate the idea of outdoor art. It makes living here a joy. You just never know when you will come across art and for many who are not museum goers, it’s provides a way to see art but not have to “go” to the museum. Definitely don’t miss the Niki de Saint Phalle exhibit if you are near/around Park Avenue neighborhood.
