This year, I celebrated my birthday lunch at Colicchio and Sons in the Meatpacking District. Collichio and Sons restaurant is one of the many restaurants founded by Tom Collichio best known for his Bravo reality TV show Top Chef appearances.
My friends and I ate in the Tap Room as the Dining Room is only open for dinner. We started our leisurely lunch with a lovely, flavored Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro. I liked the change given that we usually start with champagne but since it was a hot day, the Lambrusco turned out to be the better choice.
Given that it was a Saturday brunch time, the menu leaned heavily on eggs, pancakes and burgers type of food which really did not interested. I was torn between the Roasted Beef Tenderloin and Eggs with Potato Hash & Chimichurri and the Maine Lobster Brioche Roll, so I asked the waiter who recommended the Roast Beef. I don’t know about you but I love Lobster but have a tendency not to be impressed by Lobster Rolls even in Maine. I am not sure what the attraction is.
While two of us opted for the Roast Beef, the others opted for the TC Burger with drunk onions, pecorino and chips. Now that’s a burger.
Along with our meal, I noticed another table had ordered almond brioche and I could not resist, after all it is my birthday.
Needless to say, none of us were disappointed. My roast beef was just scrumptious and the potato hash was perfectly seasoned (of course, it’s hard to screw up potatoes.) And yes, the almond brioche were absolutely delicious.
My only disappointment (little d) is that there is no dessert menu so my birthday dessert was a blueberry muffin but that’s okay, it was delicious and made me happy to be with good friends who love and support me.
Because I love the food so much in the Tap Room, I can’t wait to try out the dinner menu in the Main Dining Room. As you can see, it really is just a beautiful room.

I also love potatoes. You’re right. It’s definitely hard to go wrong with them especially when you serve them to someone who loves them. 🙂
