This is actually a good use of taxpayers dollars. The FTC is now running ads touting the truly free site that gives provides an annual credit report for free.

Note that is only gives you your report not your FICO score. It is definitely worth looking at your credit report every year to ensure there is nothing weird on it and you are entitled to it every year.
Yes, managing your credit report is important and drives your FICO score but shouldn’t that be free as well. Why should we have to pay for this information?
