A trip to Philadelphia would not be complete unless you headed to the Reading Market, which is amazing huge food court but also sells fresh produce, baked goods, desserts and locally made products. We wandered in with no expectations other than to look for breakfast when we happened upon Down Home Diner and happy that we did since it turned out to be the only sit down diner.
My daughter and I both ordered the buttermilk pancakes and a side of eggs. She, of course, had to order bacon (this would be three orders of bacon in two days) and the apple cider. Well, I can only say that the buttermilk pancakes were fresh, yummy and melt in your mouth and the bacon which is hickory smoked was absolutely cooked crispy the way it should be and did have that smoky flavor. And the apple cider, my daughter thought it smelled funny but we both agreed that it was delicious.
Down Home Diner is a definite breakfast stop if you are visiting Philadelphia and a tip, they only take cash.
