NYC Single Mom’s Fitness Journal – January 12, 2012

January 12, 2012 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: Single Mom Daily Life

Jan 12, 2012 Weigh In

You know your fat,

  • when your fat jeans don’t fit
  • when your  Spanx don’t squeeze in your gut
  • when a friend tells you how to get to Lane Bryant when you didn’t ask
  • you don’t even bother window shopping at trendy stores because you know they dont carry anything above a size 10
  • when you look pregnant
  • you spend too much time in sweats

It’s January 2012 and I have found myself in the unenviable position  really being terribly overweight (actually obese but I can’t bear to say that work); taking high pressure and a size 16.

So how did I get here? By eating my daughters leftovers, lackluster workouts, too many carbs and my greatest vice, eating late at night.

While, I do have a selfish reason for wanting to eat healthier, get fit and of course, lose weight, I want to get back into shape for my eight year old daughter. I want to be around for many many years to come.

They say that in order to make changes you have to either put pen to paper or at least tell someone, so I am telling readers, my daughter, friends and family that I am here to make better choices in 2012 and really improve my workouts so I can climb those stairs without breathing really hard.

The first step was meeting with my Lucille Roberts trainer, Christine to discuss my goals and how she works with clients. I mentioned everything above about making better food choices and just getting in better shape. She was all about multi-tasking the routine,  such as working both the legs and the arms to make the most of the workout and not doing the same exercises all the time and changing it up each session. She wasn’t going to force me to do anything I wasn’t comfortable with doing either and no yelling. No Jillian Michaels, that’s for sure. I loved it.

After our meeting, she took my measurements and weighed me. I am not going to tell the results because frankly, I am embarrassed but let’s just say that I would quality for lightweight boxing status. At the end of my 12 week session, I will say what the beginning numbers were but just can’t bring myself to do it now.  She then made me do some preliminary exercise to judge my “fitness” level. Let me say that the Bosu Ball is not my friend.

Stay tuned and follow my fitness journey.

Here are five tips for sticking to your New Year’s resolutions–especially if you want to lose weight! I am going to do #4. Post your resolution where you’ll see it daily.

Disclosure: I have been compensated by Lucille Roberts as one of their Blogger Ambassadors but my  opinions are 100% are my own.

This is fantastic, Linda! I’m proud of you for taking this first step, and I’ll definitely be following your journey for guidance and encouragement as well. My biggest problem is that I have no will power at all (when it comes to saying “no” to bad food choices), and on top of that I’m lazy and hate to work out = very bad combination. So I hope to pick up some tips and pointers from you. Good luck!
