My Life Does Not Revolve Around My Daughter – 2012 Goals

January 11, 2012 by NYCSingleMom Filed Under: Single Mom Daily Life

A couple of weeks ago, I was talking to Daddy Mitch of gaynycdad.com (aka my blog husband) and he made a comment about how our lives “revolve around our kids.” As the norm in a our very “married”  bickering relationship, I disagreed with him.

I do think that I get out more than most single moms but I realized that it pretty much entails, eating, shopping  and going to the movies.

So it’s my goal in 2012 and let’s make it a doable goal to do go out at least once a month after 6 pm every month,  explore more of New York City,  just plain do more AND as the sign says “Take More Risks.” (Note, check out moninavelarde.com/newyears if you are interested in a New Year’s resolution generator like the one in the post.)

Here is my 2012 List of “Hopefully, I will Get it Done” by  December 31, 2012. And to keep me honest, like a true corporate drone that I am, I will provide quarterly reports come April, July and October after the results are in.

  • Take a Class, preferably in attempt to meet new people and/or learn something new
  • Teach a class – What who knows but I am determined to do this
  • Go for breakfast by myself (Starbucks/Dunkin Donuts doesn’t count)
  • See a non-kid play
  • Take a weekend trip sans kid – (Sag Harbor and Montauk are my top choices)
  • Outstanding in the Field dinner  – it’s what it sounds like dinner in a field
  • Go to a museum I have never been to (International Center of Photography, Studio Museum of Harlem, Jewish Museum, The Sex Museum)
  • And last but not least sign up for a dating site (I was going to say go on a date but let’s start slow)
  • Explore a part of the city, I have never been to (Governor’s Island, Roosevelt Island)

Feel free to provide any ideas, I welcome any thing you have.
