To say that this movie deserves to rock the box office this past weekend is an understatement. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol is a thrill ride from the opening scenes to the climatic end.
Here are my 4 reasons why I love Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.
1. Tom Cruise, Tom Cruise, Tom Cruise – No one plays Ethan Hunt with the intensity, energy and dare devil of Tom Cruise. He proves again why he is a star. And if you don’t like him for his personal stuff, move on because it doesn’t make a difference. He just rocks the role, has and always will.
2. The Pitch Perfect Cast – From the beautiful and deadly Paula Patton (Jane) to the hilarious and much needed jokester Simon Pegg (Benji) and the intense and potential Ethan Hunt adversary Jeremy Renner (Brandt), they are perfect for this movie. Each adds a dimension that moves the story along and actually gives each enough time that you actually get to know them and care what happens to them. And again a tribute to Cruise who gives each enough screen time to matter.
3. The Stunts – The most notable and probably the most discussed stunt is Cruise scaling Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is the tallest skyscraper in the world. The sequence where he has to penetrate the skyscraper’s servers that only can be reach from outside the building is the worth price of admission. And for the record, in case you did not know, Cruise does all his own stunts and if there is wire or cut during the scene. I did not see it. Even if you see the how to clip on the scenes, you still can’t believe that he actually did it and did it well. Talk about chutpuz and balls, Cruise is amazing. And the rest of the action is par excellence including another favorite action sequence, the car chase in a sand storm.
4. Woman of Color in a Co-Starring Role – Given that Tom Cruise is one of the film’s producer and known perfectionist, I am going to assume he had a say so into the cast. Choosing Paula Patton is a genius move, she is, of course, beautiful, deadly and can more than hold her own as a kick-ass IMF agent. Note that this is the second time a woman of color has been cast in a Mission Impossible movie. Thandie Newton was Cruise’s love interest in Mission Impossible II.
If you are a fan of the series or an action movie fan, go see it as it needs to be seen on the big screen.
