As they say, no need to recreate the wheel, just adapt it to meet your needs. I got the idea for the 90 day challenge from fellow blogger Joyce Brewer at Mommy Talk Show. It’s a great idea to laser focus on few items in a short window of time.
I think we all think of goals in two ways, short and long-term goals, 90 days seems like a short enough period of time to actually accomplish something soon and make a difference in the near future. I could just make these long term goals but I know me, I would just forget about them the way I do my New Years goals.
The 90 day period is from (September 15, 2018, through December 14, 2018.) I went with a Saturday because Monday is so cliche and I have the weekend to focus on actually starting and/or accomplishing items on the list. First order of business is to calenderize my follow up posts to report back on how I am doing. 30 day check is October 15, 60 day check in is November 14 and 90 day check is December 14. I have already set up the draft posts. Hey I am serious.
My Four key areas of my life I’d like to improve in 90 days are as follows.
Financial
- FINISH MY ESTATE PLAN -I know it sounds fancy but basically, an estate plan includes a will, a living trust, and a health care proxy. I actually have a will but it was written as a requirement for adopting my daughter. That was 16 years ago. Time to update it since I am changing the guardian and estate trustee.
- CONTACT LIST/FINANCIAL STATEMENTS for my guardian. When my father died, he did not leave a will which meant we had to go through probate and dig through papers strewn all over the house to figure out who to contact (e.g. credit card companies, mortgage, etc.) The world has changed since then, I do not want my Facebook or social media accounts to remain open which means my guardian has to deal with all that. It’s hard to deal with that if they don’t know about them.
- TRACK MY EXPENSES – So we just got back from Italy which now means I have a bit of debt from all those dinners and shopping sprees we went on. How old am I that I have no idea how much money I spend on food and take out? So I plan to track my daily expenses for the next 90 days. This is NOT where I list a host of apps to track your expenses. I am lazy so I just going to keep all my receipts and write them down in my planner every evening when I am watching TV.
Health and Wellness
- DRINK MORE WATER – I am the worst with drinking water. The health benefits to drinking water are numerous from helping to lose weight, better digestion and hydration of your skin. I am not even going to say i am going to drink the suggested 8 glasses a day that may happen one day but it’s my goal to drink a glass first thing in the morning and one before each meal with the hopes I drink in between meals.
- TAKE A YOGA CLASS – take one yoga class a month. It was my goal to do this every Sunday but alas something always seem to come up. Let’s bring it back to an a doable goal.
- MANI/PEDI – 90 days to either treat myself to a mani/pedicure or do it at home somehow never seems to happen.
- MASSAGE – again it’s the same as the mani/pedicure. Finding the time is always tough!
Organizational/House Decor and Cleaning
- PAPER -I am surrounded by paper. No matter where I look, there are magazines, miscellaneous printed out articles, books I am likely never to read, financial statements that need to be filed!
- CLOSETS– I have 5 closets in my small one bedroom apartment and they are filled to the gills. Over the last few weeks, I have tried to organize them but alas it’s a whack a mole. I get one organized but only because I just move stuff to another closet or have papers that I move, again those pesky papers). My goal is one closet every 30 days!
- PICTURES – I am finishing up redecorating my bathroom. The last step is adding pictures. I have photos of my time in Japan that I want to be framed. Now I need the frames. 90 days, let’s see if I can get this done!!
Nourishing the Mind
- READ A BOOK – good grief. How hard is to read a book every 90 days? Apparently, it is. You know what reading a book means, less time on social media!!! The last book I read this year was Crazy Rich Asians and that was because I was intent on finishing the book before the movie came out. I literally had to block a day to finish it right before I saw the meeting.
I spent Sunday morning and took my old school paper calendar and calendarized everything I wanted to accomplish!!
