Summer time is all about relaxing, having fun and creating memories to fill a book. Summer getaways should be a mix of both vacation and staycation moments.
6 Summer Getaways Every Child Should Experience:
- Weekend Trip to Another City – This year, we visited Washington, DC which is just train ride away. Visiting another city offers your child the chance to learn about this great country of ours that books can provide the groundwork but seeing it live really adds to the learning experience.
- Visiting a New Playground or Another Part of Your Hometown – New York City is filled with playgrounds, but we have a tendency to visit the same ones every year. Why not plan a day trip to another part of the city or even aghast another borough, pick a fan favorite diner and explore a different part of the city. Make it even more fun, invite friends and make it a big playdate. It’s like a day trip in your home town. We recently visited iconic Coney Island, a fun day trip.
- Explore a New Museum – New York City is filled with museums but we have a tendency to visit the same ones all the time from The Museum of Natural History to the Metropolitan Museum and the Children’s Museum which are all popular amongst both kids and adults. Why not find a museum that fits your child’s interest like a science museum or an aquarium. This year we visited New York Aquarium, and the New York Historical Society
- Visit Disney World – Disney World is one of those iconic summer experiences every child and/or adult should experience. There is so much to do and see that there is no way, your child will not have the best trip of their life. This year, we went to Disney World twice; once with family and once with Disney Social Media Mom Celebration. I know that both experiences, will have long lasting memories for my daughter especially hanging with her California cousins.
- Spend a Week with the Family – I have fond memories spending the summer with my grandparents. Spending quality time with family is important for children so they can really to get to know their cousins and/or grandparents. This year, we surprised my 80 year old aunt on her birthday which was attended by cousins I had not seen in years. This was such a fantastic family event for my daughter as well to spend time with her immediate family.
- Have a picnic. Pack a picnic basket and head to your local park for a fun, easy outdoor meal.
What are your summer travel plans?

These are fantastic ideas, and thanks for the reminder about Washington, D.C.! In fact, we want to go there, and to the Baltimore Aquarium. I need to remind dh to take the time off to join us.
Thanks for linking up at Motivation Monday!

We love visiting new cities. The aquarium is our stomping grounds, and we live at Liberty Science Center in the summer. I’m hoping to get the kids down to the Baltimore aquarium this summer, since it’s my favorite one. Great list!

Great ideas! We have never been to Washington DC but really want to go. Our kids are tween/teens so I think they would appreciate seeing our nation’s capital.
