Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and that means romantic comedies are what people will be watching. Seriously, who doesn’t like a good romance movie? Even without Valentine’s Day, I have included movies that can be watched year round as they are in my opinion some of the most watchable romance movies. Take a moment to relax, hang with loved ones or friends or whomever, enjoy your favorite foods, a glass of vino and enjoy just watching movies.
Here are my top 5 Must Watch Valentine’s Day movies or without the pressure of celebrating Valentine’s Day, my 5 Must Watch Romantic movies. Obviously, these 5 are just the tip of the iceberg, FiOS On Demand is offering up a multitude of Valentine’s Day themed movies to rent or buy just for your viewing pleasure. And just a reminder you can access and watch these and other movies with Verizon Fios Mobile App.
Love Actually
From the makers of Bridget Jones’s Diary and Notting Hill comes the ultimate romantic comedy about love’s delightful twists and turns, starring some of Hollywood’s brightest stars including Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Emma Thompson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Andrew Lincoln, and Keira Knightley.
This is one my favorite movies of all time. And I am not alone in my opinion, it is probably one of the most popular romantic comedies of all time.

Notting Hill
This classic romantic comedy stars Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant in their 90’s hey day but still remains a fan favorite. Julia Roberts plays Anna Scott the world’s most famous movie star (how true that moniker was when this movie was released. Hugh Grant plays William Thacker who owns a travel bookstore in the quaint neighborhood of Notting Hill. When their paths cross, the couple comes to face the ultimate question: can two people fall in love with the whole world watching? There are some great scenes in the movie from the insider view of what happens at big movie press junket (I can attest to the authenticity) to the now famous line from the movie “And don’t forget… I’m also just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.” And of course the movie includes a young Hugh Bonneville best known as Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham. It’s a keeper.

Deliver Us From Eva
Deliver Us From Eva stars Gabrielle Union and LL Cool J (making his career move from Rapper to actor) in this cute and “predictable” romantic comedy but is still worth watching.
Gabreille Union plays Eva who has been in charge of her younger sisters ever since their parents died, many years ago. Eva’s uncanny ability to interfere in her sisters’ affairs has not endeared her to their spouses and partners. The men would like to close out and divide up the family trust fund that Eva oversees. So they concoct a simple plan: compensate cash strapped ladies’ man played by you guessed LL Cool J to romance Eva. This is a side note, I liked that they showed Eva, a career woman who took her job super serious. She plays a health inspector who pretty much puts the restaurants on her list in fear of her appearance. You always have to appreciate that she is determined that she and her sisters are provided for.

Jerry Maguire
Tom Cruise plays Jerry Maguire, a sports agent at the top of his game who has a moral epiphany one day and is fired for expressing it in a mission statement. He is left with one athlete Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) to make his way as an independent agent. Along with his mercurial client, another employee played by Renee Zellweger decides to leave with him when he is fired. The movie is known for some memorable and quotable quotes. “Show me the money” and “I love black people” are from a scene in which Jerry has to save his one last client.
And of course, the most romantic of romantic scenes is when Jerry goes to save his relationship with Dorothy (Renee Zellweger.)
Jerry: “I love you. You… you complete me. And I just… “
Dorothy: “Shut up. You had me at “hello”. You had me at “hello”.

Love and Basketball
You will love the twists and turns of this young and dynamic couple as they navigate the tricky paths of romance and athletics.
—————————————————————————————————————————-
- More Adult Comedy Fare – Two movies I think fall into the romantic comedy genre that some might find otherwise and fall into the rauchier comedies are Forgetting Sarah Marshall starring and Trainwrecked starring Amy Schumer and Bill Hader.
- For Teens – Little Manhattan, Syndey White, The Duff, Say Anything and Pretty in Pink.

I’ve never thought of Love Actually as a Valentine’s Day movie before. It’s always marketed as a Christmas movie, but I guess it’s still leftover on Netflix yet!
NYCSingleMom says
Many people would agree that its more a Christmas movie but I find that they play Love Actually all year round and is playing now.
Annemarie LeBlanc says
My favorite is Notting Hill. Athough the plot is so cliche (rich girl poor boy), it was a fantastic movie! I cannot remember how many times I watched it and would love to have a chance to watch it again! Oh that iconic line, “I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.” And of course the movie theme song, “She” is so romantic!
NYCSingleMom says
I know what you mean that is pretty cliche but I just love Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant!! If I happen upon it while channel surfing, I have to stop and watch it. And I love that scene and I just get a little teary eyed hearing the theme song!!
Stephanie Jeannot says
Love and Basketball is still one of my favorite movies to this day. I heard Notting Hill was a great film but never saw it. Maybe I will one day.

You will see why Renee Zellweger became a big star after it and the quotes, so many made it to the pop culture.
