School is about to begin for most of the country but us New York City kids go back to school September 8. Yes, September 8 and that is a post for another day.
The problem with the late start date is that all the camps end August 20 which means parents have to scramble to figure out what to do with their kids for two weeks. Two weeks that’s a long time but it doesn’t have to be days filled with watching television, computers and the playground.
Here are 4 four activiites to celebrate summer’s last hurrah!!
1. Create a scrapbook or photobook – Take an evening out of the break, make it a family affair and review all the photos you took over the summer and choose photos for the scrapbook. Of course, if you live in the city in an apartment like I do , you have to improvise. My daughter likes to set up a tent near my bed and of course in her favorite chair.
3. Backwards Day – This is my favorite thing to do is plan a backwards day where you serve dinner for breakfast and breakfast for dinner. There is nothing yummier than serving pancakes, bacon and eggs for dinner.
4. Plan a last hurrah – There is at 2- 3 things you have been meaning to do all summer but just did not do it, now here is your chance. Bake that a mud cake my friend made while stayed with and going to Ikea. You may not think going to Ikea is a big thing but in New York, we get to take the ferry to the Brooklyn store and enjoy our lunch with a view of the Statue of Liberty. Last but not least is that we have to make it to the New York Aquarium.
What’s your last hurrah before school begins?
Sure, unscheduled days can loom long for parents and kids alike, but the last days of s
