Daisy Ridley is a name you may not know now but on December 18, 2016, she will forever be known as “Rey” one of the key leads of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This is the 23-year-old British-born actress first film role. For someone who is going to be one of the most recognized faces on the planet with action figures and her face plastered on everything from backpacks to wallets, she was so delightful, gracious and down to earth. I mean this seriously, her interview was one of many gazillion happening that day and I loved her enthusiasm to meet this group of mom and dad bloggers.
Thoughts on her character as the next generation’s Luke Skywalker
Watching Herself on Screen
What characteristics of Rey do see in yourself?
There were several action figures on the table and Daisy who has received tons of Star Wars toys had not seen her “Rey” action figure with a “rucksack.” Her sister made her put all her toys away because it was so weird but then kidded to her that when she moved out, she would create a shrine to her with her toys. Sisters!
What made the interview so refreshing is Daisy’s honesty about her not being a Star Wars fan before being cast and that she hopes that those people who weren’t on board before will be just as excited as she about the movie.
She admitted that during the audition process, she felt like she was screwing up due to her putting so much pressure on herself but J.J. Abrams (the director) saw something in her.
She is embarrassed to admit that she had no idea who Kathleen Kennedy was (she is the Producer of hits like E.T. and the President of Lucasfilms) but now looks to her as a role model.
I just loved her. She conveyed that she was happy that she had no idea how far the Star Wars excitement had reached while she was filming. It only hit her what a phenemonan the franchise is when she attended her first convention (Comic Con) and how overwhelming it is.
We all thanked her at the end and wished her luck as the true onslaught begins this week. And I look forward to my daughter and all the young girls having another kick ass role model. Trust me, there will be tons of “Rey” young and old walking around on Halloween.
