Avengers: Age of Ultron is set to open May 1 with Chris Evans reprising his role as Captain America along with Chris Hemsworth traveling from Askgard to play Thor the God of Thunder.
So it was not a surprise that the two superheroes were paired for our interview. I will admit that there was a moment of fear that our interview would be cancelled as all of the cast was on a tight schedule during the press event.
Then it was announced they would be coming in next. Let me say that when they entered the room, we clapped and their response was quite exhilarating.
Let’s face it Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth are huge, huge superstars that engender Marvel fans to camp out to see their movies and live for every Marvel news, so I was amazed how down to earth, relaxed and truly funny the two men were.
They actually referred to each out other as Chris 1 and Chris 2.
What It’s Really Like to Play Captain America
In the first couple of movies, it’s all about doing the research on the character and reading the comics, make sure that the fans are satisfied with your characterization, but then it’s Joss Whedon and the screenwriter who is moving the character’s evolution. Chris mentioned that “ That’s always new and that’s what makes these exciting to come to. If weren’t new, it would get old, stagnant and the audience would feel it.”
When asked if playing Captain America has made your more wholesome? His response, “If that’s even possible, I mean, I am already a god d**m boy scout.” This one of those had to be there moments because the entire room erupted into laughter including Hemsworth because I am pretty sure Mr. Evans is no boy scout.
Best Thing About Being an Superhero
It goes without saying that Marvel Super heros are adored the world over and any little news or trailers sets the internet on fire. Captain America and the actor who plays him Chris Evans undoubtedly has his own fan base. But I don’t think that Evans embodies Captain America for the fanboy (and fan girl) adoration, it’s about the kids. “There’s really nothing like seeing a kid’s face light up, kind of freeze in the moment” when they meet you. He mentioned meeting Hulk Hogan when he was 10 and the impact it had on him so it’s not lost on him what the impact of a young child meeting Captain America in person. “Those are the moments that can really impact a kid’s life.
What’s Wrong With Long Hair?
One of Sherry Hukeba from FamilyLoveAndOtherStuff.com young readers who is a victim of bullying asked Chris Hemsworth what he thought about boys having long hair given his character Thor has long hair. Well you can imagine, he said “of course.” He mentioned that his dad long hair and when he was young lad, he had the opportunity to play professional Australian football and when the coach told him he had to cut his ponytail, his dad said no. The best quotes from our two superheros, Chris Evans stated “Anytime I see a kid with long hair, that kid is so much cooler than anything I ever was and from Chris Hemsworth “Girls love long hair.”
Having Fun with the Asgardian Lingo
According to producer Kevin Feige, “Chris Hemsworth is Thor now.” Is he ever? Sadly, we were not able to video record the interviews but if we could Chris Hemsworth answering the following questions in his best God-Speak would definitely go viral. His response, “Honey, let’s bring the thunder. Too far? Too far?” And Captain America could not top that one laughing, ” Best answer ever. There’s no answer that is going to be better than that one ever.” The God of Thunder is pretty darn hilarious and a good sport. You have to give him credit for being so informal.
Favorite Superheros
Chris Evans liked Spiderman and liked battling the Ninja turtles. Chris Hemsworth liked Superman.
Inspiration for Captain America
In playing Captain America, Chris Evans look a kid he grew up with, Charlie Morris. He admired because he was an Eagle Scout and just the best guy I knew. We asked if we tweet his comment. Chris response, “No, he’s too good for twitter.”
