Martin Luther King, Jr Washington Memorial
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial is one of the many MUST SEE Activities in Washington, D.C. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial was dedicated on October 16, 2011 to commemorate the 48th anniversary of Dr. King’s now famous and historic March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. For history buffs, the memorial was supposed to be dedicated on August 28 , 2011 on the actual 48th anniversary but the ceremony was postponed due to Hurricane Irene.
Master Lei Yixin is the sculptor of the memorial which is located between the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial and between the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials on the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. The memorial is 30-foot tall and is made out granite, costing $120 million to build.
There are fourteen quotes on the Inscription Wall. On the side of this statue is a quote from the “I Have a Dream” speech “Out of the Mountain of Despair, a Stone of Hope.” For more Martin Luther King. Jr. Quotes.
