When visiting London, make sure you take a ride on the The London Eye, the tallest Ferris wheel in Europe. Riding the London Eye, you can see so many of the city’s iconic landmarks like Big Ben, Parliament, Golden Jubilee Bridges, the London Gherkin and more.
It has 32 enclosed pods and is 443 ft. The entire ride takes about a half an hour and goes really slowly, nothing like a your typical ferris ride, you feel nothing as it rotates around weird but comforting to know. In our pod, there was about 10 people in it and only 800 people per revolution. The ferris wheel goes so slow that passengers can step on and off without the wheel having to stop. There is a little bench in the middle of the pod but take it from me, you will want to walk around the pod and take pictures.
The London Eye is located on the South Bank of the River Thames, next to the Jubilee Gardens which is a great place to rest and wander after your trip around the Eye. There is also a playground for the kids to enjoy.
And The London Eye is walking distance from numerous major attractions including Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, London Aquarium, and Trafalgar Square.
After we wandered into we walked over the Golden Jubilee Bridge which named in honour of the fiftieth anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne.
The London Eye
Location: Jubilee Gardens, South Bank
Website: The London Eye for hours, tickets and directions
Admission: £20 – £30 (adults) but check various London tour groups which offer The London Eye as part of their attractions package.
And special note if anyone in your party is having a special event to celebrate, you can actually have a celebration in the pod (and I mean you can have alcohol on your ride).
