It may be cold but that shouldn’t keep you indoors. New York during the Winter months has so many activities to offer both New Yorkers and tourists alike to keep you busy and active.

- Harry Potter: The Exhibition – This exhibit is for Harry Potter aficionados. We went to see it the first time around and loved it. Fly on over as the exhibit runs through May 2013.
- Off Broadway Kid Shows – Fancy Nancy, Angelina Ballerina and The Velveteen Rabbit (Ends Jan. 27) are all playing through most of the winter.
- Get crafty – There are a number of drop-in craft stores throughout New York including Little Shop of Crafts, Scribble Press, and Make Meaning.
- Take some iconic New York photos for your scrapbook at several photogenic attractions: Highline Park, Empire State Building, Top of the Rock Rockefeller Center, and Brooklyn Heights Promenade.
- Get in the holiday mood with true window shopping as you peruse the Department Store Holiday Windows including Bloomingdales, Macys, Lord and Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue and Barney’s.
- Visit Rockefeller Center and the famed Christmas Tree
- Warm up with a cup of hot chocolate, try Max Brenner (Union Square); Mariebelle or City Bakery.
- Ballet fans enjoy The New York Theatre Ballet’s Second Season of The Nutcracker.
- Carnegie Hall Family Concert series offers is designed to give children and their families the opportunity to attend interactive and educational live performances at Carnegie Hall. Tickets start at just $9.

- Enjoy Tunes with Tina DeVaron. Tina DeVaron is fast becoming a New York tradition. We enjoyed Tina when she was at another location. It is a wild and fun event in which Tina makes up (on the spot!) a special song for each child who comes up to sing with Tina.
- Make s’mores. Did you know that Americans buy 90 million pounds of marshmallows every year?
- Visit a local museum. Most New York museums have one day of the week that has free admission.
- Take in the view of Roosevelt Island from the Roosevelt Island Tram.
- Take in a movie, play video games or partake in a family workshop at Sony Wonder Technology Lab.
- Roll around the ball room at Children’s Museum of Manhattan.
- Be astounded by the holiday lights in Dyker Heights
- The popular Tropical Butterfly exhibit makes it annual return to the American Museum of Natural History through May 28, 2013.
- Introduce your kids to Picasso at the Picasso Black and White exhibit at the Guggenheim Museum through January 23, 2013.
- Delight in the model trains that ride through the numerous iconic New York landmarks at the Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden
