The Kimberly Hotel, located in Midtown Manhattan was an exceptional and delightful staycation event for my daughter and myself. I must admit that I had not heard of The Kimberly Hotel when I was being invited to stay in the hotel as a guest. What a treat, right. Being a tourist in the town where you live, how often does that happen. To say that we enjoyed our time is an understatement!
What I liked about the Kimberly Hotel:
The Luxury One Bedroom Suite: I loved the layout of the room, decor and the amenities we stayed in. There is a mini-fridge, microwave and a wet bar stocked with a coffee pot, glasses, cups and utensils. f you are family, it’s the perfect size; parents in the master bedroom and kids on the pull out sofa in the living area. Our particular room came with balcony that faced the Chrysler building. The room was truly luxurious and comfortable at the same time. There were two flat screen televisions for your viewing pleasure.
Amenities such as Frette sheets, goose down pillows, bathrobe and slippers, on-site fitness center, and access to New York Health and Racquet Club.
Access to the Kimberly Yacht– For $25 guests can take a yacht ride around Southern Manhattan where you will enjoy viewing the Famed Brooklyn Bridge, the iconic Statue of Liberty and views of the Freedom Tower being built. There is a Sunday brunch cruise as well as a Sunset cruise. The yacht is a nice upgrade from the Circle Line given that there is cold brunch aboard. I would recommend arriving early so you can get a good seat on the top floor or in the front of the yacht. The cold brunch included pasta salad, lox, bagels, fruit salad and sandwiches. Another tip is to eat as the boat leaves the dock and fill up early, as by the end of the trip, there was no food left. The Kimberly Yacht runs from May through September.
Walking distance to major retail stores (Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales, Louis Vuitton); kid – friendly store (Build-A-Bear, Lego, American Girl) and major attractions (Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Central Park).
“Upstairs” Roof Top Bar – With 360 amazing views, the “Upstairs” Rooftop Bar is a fun place for having a drink or a family- friendly breakfast or a weekend brunch. And if you stay at the hotel in the winter, the “Upstairs” has a fireplace to keep you cozy and warm.
The Service – From the concierge to the front desk, the staff was super nice and helpful but you can say that about most hotel staff until something goes wrong and that’s when you find out how good they really are. I have no idea what happened but at some point after we checked in the air conditioning stopped working in the bedroom. I had visions of having to miss out sleeping on the Frette covered plush King size bed or being inconvenienced by having to pack up at 11pm at night but about 15 minutes after I called, the maintenance man came and fixed the air conditioning. It was just blown fused. It says something that there was a maintenance worker there so late. I have been in other hotels where you were out of luck if something went wrong that late at night.
The Balcony – There are plenty of diners in the neighborhood, but we decided to go Ess-a- Bagel and bring our bagels to eat on the balcony. How often do you get to have a bagels relaxing and enjoying looking up at the Chrysler Building.
What I did not Like about The Kimberly Hotel:
Internet Fees– This is a huge pet peeve of mine that hotels charge you anything for the internet. The Kimberly Hotel like most hotels do this and it’s nuts. I don’t get it, to pay $12.95 a day is just plain wrong. You know they aren’t paying
Tips to make your stay more enjoyable. The issue with Midtown Manhattan is there is no conveniently located supermarket near the hotel however, there is a Duane Reade drugstore around the corner on Second Avenue and that sells milk for your morning coffee, bottled water snacks and even pre-made sandwiches.
So if you are looking for a conveniently located, sumptuous-feeling Frette covered bed with great amenities then head to the Kimberly Hotel in midtown.
