Mandarin Oriental Washington, D.C. Review
If you are looking for an elegant hotel situated near the Washington Mall, then consider, The Mandarin Oriental Washington DC.
The hotel is without a doubt, one of the most beautifully designed hotels offering five-star luxury that we have ever stayed in. From the lobby to the rooms to the bar and restaurants to the outdoor area outside the main restaurant, you will be staying in the lap of indulgent luxury.
Empress Lounge
We enjoyed a drink in the Empress Lounge but passed on eating at the Lounge. The menu looked great for me but wasn’t too kid friendly. The outdoor area was fun for a few minutes but definitely more for hanging out in the warmer months.
I really liked that the hotel is walking distance to many of the cities key attractions including the National Mall, the Washington Monument, Capitol Hill and the Smithsonian Institute. The Hirshhorn Art Museum was so close, I had enough time to view the entire museum before our noon check out.
A View of the Washington Monument From the Front of the Hotel
And if you are wanting to visit the White House, it’s about 30 minutes walking distance as well. You can also get to the Tidal Basin, the Martin Luther King Memorial and the Jefferson Memorial from the pathway behind the hotel. Kids will love seeing how money is printed at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, just a few minutes walking distance around the corner from the hotel.
Want to extend your visit pass the Mall, the Mandarin Oriental is only 5 minutes from the closest Metro Station so you can head to Chinatown for dinner or the National Zoo to see the Pandas.
My daughter and I stayed in a large bedroom that featured two double beds, a desk and comfy chair. The beds were just delicious to sleep in. I really enjoyed a restful stay each night as did my daughter.
While the room was wonderful, the spacious, marble bathroom with it’s deep soaking tub is noteworthy. I mention the spacious bathtub because my daughter took a bath every night during our stay that’s how inviting it was.
There is also a spacious walk-in shower for those who are not bath takers. And the terry bathrobes are truly plush so much so that we enjoyed just lounging in them long after our bath.
The Mandarin Oriental offers a superlative high definition LCD televisions. We couldn’t believe the clarity of the television. You will be not be spending too much time in your room but when you want to relax and watch television after your return, you will not be disappointed. And the hotel offers fast, high quality bandwidth in which you can register up to four devices. This is great especially if you are traveling with kids who want to watch on the iPad while you work on your computer.
