In Genndy Tartakovsky’s Hotel Transylvania 2, Drac’s pack is back for an all-new monster comedy adventure!
Everything seems to be changing for the better at Hotel Transylvania… Dracula’s rigid monster-only hotel policy has finally relaxed, opening up its doors to human guests. But behind closed coffins, Drac is worried that his adorable half-human, half-vampire grandson, Dennis, isn’t showing signs of being a vampire. So while Mavis is busy visiting her human in-laws with Johnny – and in for a major cultural shock of her own – “Vampa” Drac enlists his friends Frank, Murray, Wayne and Griffin to put Dennis through a “monster-in-training” boot camp. But little do they know that Drac’s grumpy and very old, old, old school dad Vlad is about to pay a family visit to the hotel. And when Vlad finds out that his great-grandson is not a pure blood – and humans are now welcome at Hotel Transylvania – things are going to get batty!
Hotel Transylvania 2 is the follow up to the very successful 2012 hit which focused on Dracula’s hotel for monsters that was a hideaway for monsters to avoid all those humans coming at them with torches and pitchforks. While the 2012 hit focused on the father- daughter relationship, the sequel focuses on his grand child and whether he will get his fangs and become a vampire.
Dracula wants him to be a vampire and goes to great lengths to get his fangs to appear and the human grandparents just want their son, daughter in law and grandson to move to the burbs.
There a lot of fish out of water moments. Whether it’s the in-laws dealing with the monsters during the wedding or Dracula’s vampire daughter first time visit to a 7-11 type mini-mart enjoying all the slurpees. Probably the cutest new addition is Dennis, the grandson. With his puffy hair and adorably drawn face, little kids and tweens will love him. He was my daughter and her friend’s favorite character.
Do I recommend the movie? Yes, it’s a cute movie, totally enjoyable, beautifully animated movie that offers a lot of laughs for kids and at the end of the day it’s all about loving your family no matter what whether they are a “monster or human.” I do think the monsters might be a bit scary for younger kids.
