The Sheraton Society Hill Hotel located just 10 minutes from Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell is a beautifully designed hotel with a great staff. Given that we were staying in the hotel for the Digital Family Summit, we spent a lot of time in the hotel.
The lobby at the Sheraton Society Hill has an amazing layout with lots of seating and I mean lots of seating, There are two side alcoves that seem like your own private living room. Now most people don’t hang out in the lobby when on vacation but given that we had a late train and nowhere to go after checkout, relaxing in the lobby was quite nice.
And did I mention, there is a Starbucks in the lobby. That is a plus in my book, yes, it’s nice to have a coffee pot in the room but let’s face it, non-dairy creamer is not a substitution for milk. Also, the Starbucks sells breakfast food so if you are in a hurry to get out to sightsee, it’s an option to get something to go.
Looking for an evening break from visiting all the sites, then head to the pool which has a beautiful skylight that adds to the ambiance of the pool area. But be forewarned, if you are not in the water it can get pretty hot.
Our standard double room was roomy enough for two, equipped with a truly comfortable bed, a small sitting chair, a flat screen television and a coffee pot. On the credenza were two bottles of water that I stopped my daughter from opening until I looked to see that it only cost a $1.00. Usually hotels charge you $5 for a bottle of water so open away I say.
As I walked into the bathroom, I was surprised, actually shocked to find the towel bar was missing and literally the bar was missing and all that was left was the wall hanging which was dangling off the wall. But kudos to the front desk for getting it fixed immediately.
So here is my bugaboo with the hotel. I am a Starwood Credit Card holder and a Starwood Preferred guest member and yet I was treated like a non loyal guest. Did I expect an upgrade, no but I think at the minimum I should have been given a late checkout and/or had my internet waived.
And this gets me to my final comment, charging for internet. This is a source of irritation that hotels charge $10 for a 24 hour period for internet, who is staying in their room for 24 hours and $10 a day is outrageous and is akin to the airlines charging you for checking your bag.
That said, if you are looking for a hotel near Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, provides wonderful accommodation and has a friendly staff, definitely check the Sheraton Hotel website for rates as the specials make staying at the hotel quite reasonable.
