Jessica Alba, actress, wife, mom and now entrepreneur has just launched The Honest Company, named for oldest daughter, Honor, a line of eco-friendly and toxic-free family products all delivered to your doorstep for a monthly subscription.
I had the pleasure of meeting Jessica Alba (this was my second encounter with Jessica, my first was interviewing her for Spy Kids 4) along with Christopher Gavigan, author of Healthy Child, Healthy World at the launch of her newest baby, The Honest Company at an event hosted by Nicole Feliciano of momtrends.com at ABC Kitchen. As the one of the founders of the company, I loved that Jessica pitched the ideas to her partners of an accessible, stylish, non-toxic (and “cute”, her words) line of products rather than going down the tried and true beauty and fashion route (and not that there is anything wrong with that.)
Jessica talked about being concerned about the products currently being sold even the ones her mom recommended had used and wanting more eco-friendly products. After much research and discussion, along with Christopher, she partnered with Brian Lee of shoedazzle.com and Sean Kane of PriceGrabber.com to create The Honest Company. Smart move partnering with experts.
Of course, creating non-toxic, eco-friendly products is one thing but as anyone with kids knows, convenience is the key. As a result, The Honest Company also provides personalized service available in two bundles.
How it Works:
1. Visit honest.com and answer a few fun questions and from there, the company customizes a Honest Nursery just for you.
2. Choose your bundle either the Diapers Bundle ($79.95 a month; the number of diapers sent monthly depends on the size of the diaper) and/or Family Essentials Bundle ($35.95 a month; is tailored to your needs and includes Shampoo & Body Wash, Face & Body Lotion, Healing Balm, Laundry Detergent and Hand Soap) which is delivered to your door monthly.
3. Personalize Monthly – Select diaper styles you love and mix & match the bath/skin and cleaning products you need the most!
Voila! Your done and no need to think about again unless you want to add or change the bundle. Wow, this would have been so helpful when my daughter was young and I lived in a third floor walk-up apartment. I think back on having to think about, shop for diapers and what seemed like every waking moment, wondering if I had diapers, did I need diapers?? And shlepping them up three flights of stairs.
This would have solved my problems in a minute by delivering diapers, wipes and detergent to my doorstep every month and the diapers would have been 100% non-toxic, chlorine free, contain no alcohol, or perfumes.

Let’s get to the dish. Jessica Alba was as beautiful in person as she is on television and the movies and frankly just as nice. I have learned in going to these events to judge celebrities by their willingness to work with “mom” bloggers. And the fact that she literally took a photo with all 50 bloggers in attendance is a testament to her patience and her character. I know this because there are some celebrities who show up, talk and leave with no regard to the fact that you took time out your non-paying writing gig, paid for a babysitter and expect you to write about their latest project.
So thanks Jessica, I look forward to trying the Honest Company products.
Disclosure: NYC Single Mom was not paid for this post but did receive samples.
