This weekend, we were prevented from walking on the sidewalk because it was blocked off by the easily recognizable yellow police tape indicating that a crime has happened.
Given that I was with my daughter, I did not stop to ask what happened but only connected it was foul play.
How is that?
As far as I am concerned, it’s never good when a convergence of news trucks (there were three,) photographers and lots of policeman bringing out evidence in those again instantly recognizable brown paper bags (watch procedural dramas much?)
Of course, my daughter (and do you blame her) asked me, “What happened?”
“I have no idea,” I responded.
This being New York and everyone wanting to know what happened when they a gaggle of policemen. Sometimes, you just gotta know, right.
Just as we were close to reaching our destination, we both hear someone shout out to the photographer, “Hey, what happened?”
“Someone got shot last night,” the person shouted back.
“Mommy, somebody got shot at the diner, where we have dinner with M & T (our playdate dinner mates.) What happened? Is he dead?”
“I guess so, I don’t know,” and I kept on walking. We arrived at our destination, so the questions stopped as she was distracted. Luckily, when we came back the same route, everything was gone.
Goes to show you, crime is everywhere even in a neighborhood with million dollar apartments. I guess it’s a matter of time before she witnesses an arrest.
So much for trying to shield your kids from violence.

I love NYC but I don’t love the crime. The price people pay to visit and live there. be careful out there!!
